Brownfields in New York

What governmental programs are available in New York State to assist in the remediation and redevelopment of contaminated property?New York State's Brownfield Cleanup Program (the BCP) can be used to facilitate the remediation and ultimate redevelopment of contaminated property so that it can be put back into productive use to help revitalize economically blighted communities. The BCP has evolved into an essential tool to assist developers in creating productive urban and suburban spaces that include both environmental and financial benefits for developers and communities alike. This material provides guidance on how to use the BCP as a tool to obtain liability protection, obtain potentially valuable tax credits, and increase project finance-ability by utilizing the BCP. It then provides practice pointers to help minimize liability and maximize financial incentives in an environmentally responsible manner. This information is critical for professionals handling the transfer and redevelopment of contaminated property in New York State.
